Romantyzm, pojmowany jako początek nowego myślenia o człowieku i świecie, był także rewolucją w refleksji o literaturze. Ważnym zwiastunem zmian artystyczno-światopoglądowych było powstawanie nowych gatunków literackich oraz twórcze modyfikowanie zastanych form wypowiedzi. Autorzy tomu poddają namysłowi romantyczne gatunki, przyglądają się, w jaki sposób romantycy przyswajali i przekształcali formy klasyczne, jak tworzyli nowe formy gatunkowe.
