Opis
Umberto Giordano (1867-1948) is often described as a composer who had only one "hit," but this is not strictly true. In addition to Andrea Chenier, he had triumphs with Fedora, Siberia, and Madame Sans-Gene, all of which are still heard occasionally in Italy. It is indeed the case, however, that only Andrea Chenier has entered the standard repertoire worldwide. It has always been a favorite not only of audiences, but also of singers-especially tenors, for whom the composer has generously provided not one, but two blockbuster arias that never fail to bring down the house. The opera also has a spectacular aria each for soprano and baritone, a beautiful love duet, and a thrilling finale with heart-pounding orchestration.
