This volume consists of two parts and contains eight articles. It deals with various aspects of information technology and its influence on modern societies. Part One is concerned with information societies on a global scale: overabundance of information, and social, and economic and cultural changes brought about by the revolution in information science. Part Two deals with the EU's efforts to aid the construction of an information society in Evirope. In this part documents of the European Union concerning the European model of information society are discussed as well as the place of knowledge in the organization of modern society (Information Society). Also in this part the process of transition from policy aimed at developing infrastructure towards that aimed at human activity and mobility is shown. One article deals with the role of the Internet as a source of information for the European society and its use by the Roman Catholic Church.
